Loughborough continued an undefeated winning steak to beat Glasgow Wildcats on home ground 64-41.

Loughborough got straight into the game from the first whistle. Despite this Glasgow Wildcats held strong and gave Loughborough Lightning a decent run for their money finishing the first quarter 5 goals down, 15-10 at the first break.

Loughborough Lightning gained momentum and won the second and third quarters by 9 and 11 goals respectively. Scores 32-18 at half time and 49-28 at 3 quarter time.

The fourth and final quarter was a tough tussle between the teams, only 2 goals in it. It was however too late for Glasgow Wildcats to be in game contention as Loughborough Lightning continued to perform, squashing hopes for Glasgow to recover a 21 goal deficit. Loughborough Lightning finished the game ahead by 23 goals, 64-41.

Glasgow Wildcats Coach Denise Holland said after the game ‘It was a great opportunity to play our squad against a quality unbeaten side. I was really pleased with the way we held our composure resulting in an impressive score.

‘Both Lesley MacDonald and Stephanie Docherty on her debut in NSL were outstanding showing real dogged determination. This improved performance gives us the knowledge we can compete with the best.’

Excitable debutante player Stephanie Docherty said after the game ‘It was a completely new experience for me and I loved every minute of it. I thought the team showed great determination and fought for every ball to the end.’

Head Coach of Loughborough Lightning tonight Rose Port said after the game ‘It was a good opportunity to try out new combinations, a solid performance with squad rotation and we kept fluency with new players on court.’

Captain of Loughborough Lightning Jade Clarke gave credit to her opposition saying ‘Wildcats’ speed in mid-court made us work really hard and we had to think about what we were doing to adjust.’
