Glasgow Wildcats: Scotland's Superleague Team

Here Come the Girls!

Glasgow Wildcats are back and the claws are out.

As most girls prepare for the onslaught of Christmas and the focus of fitting into a little black dress rather than your netball dress takes precedence; a small group of dedicated netballers continue to work harder than ever to make sure they are ready for their second season in the Cooperative Netball Superleague.

The Glasgow Wildcats’ CNSL season commences on 19th December with a hat trick of away games, comprising: Leeds Carnegie, Loughborough Lightning and Northern Thunder, before returning home, suitably warmed up, to lay down the challenge of a home win against Team Northumbria on 10th January 2010 at Glasgow Club Bellahouston.

Following the pre-season trials in October, the squad has been bolstered with 3 new signings:   active schools coordinator Hu Paul and students Jacy Brown and Jayne Duncan, with this new line up adding further strength to the attack. They join familiar faces from last year, including a welcome return from Karin Connell, sorely missed following an injury in her CNSL debut game with the Glasgow Wildcats. The squad will be captained once again by Scotland’s Lesley MacDonald.

Every member of this year’s squad has benefited from strength and conditioning training delivered by the instructors at the Institute of Sport. This has improved the core strength of the players, whilst increasing the power of vital muscles. As the majority of the squad also play for Scotland, we will hopefully start to see the benefits on the international stage as well.

The target for the Glasgow Wildcats 2009/10 CNSL Challenge, include improving on the final league position from last season. For Head coach Denise Holland, however, the focus is on winning the small battles to help reach the ultimate goal.

Denise Holland GWC Coach:

“We are determined to show our supporters just how hard we have been working; we will win more quarters, shoot and convert more goals, capitalize on our own possession, and ball by ball break down our opposition’s game.  It is extremely exciting. With the experience of last year under our belts, the Glasgow Wildcats are confident and raring to go.”

However your support is vital! There are 8 home games split between Glasgow Club Bellahouston and Glasgow Club Kelvin Hall ISA, two of which will be broadcast on Sky Sports.
